About the Exhibition
"Art is not just what we create; it is the economic and cultural foundation upon which we build our future." — Okeeba Jubalo
The Long Way Home marks a deeply personal and transformative exhibition by multidisciplinary artist, author, and cultural architect Okeeba Jubalo.
Chronicling a narrative forged through resilience, evolution, and homecoming, the exhibition explores Jubalo’s journey from his formative upbringing in North Charleston to three decades of boundary-pushing creative leadership across Atlanta, Las Vegas, and beyond. Returning to his Lowcountry roots, Jubalo brings back powerful, tactile works that bridge raw cultural history with bold contemporary vision.
Hosted in the prestigious Frederic Payet Gallery on historic Broad Street, this opening reception invites collectors, creators, and art patrons to immerse themselves in an evocative body of work that celebrates identity, community, and the beauty of returning home.
About the Artist: Okeeba Jubalo
Okeeba Jubalo is a visionary multidisciplinary artist, executive creative director, and the driving force behind the North Charleston Arts District. With a career spanning over 30 years, Jubalo uses fine art as an economic engine and a catalyst for civic and cultural revitalization. Through monumental storytelling, rich texturing, and unapologetic historical exploration, his work has been showcased across major cultural institutions and galleries nationally. Returning to the Lowcountry, he continues to position North Charleston as a vital epicenter for contemporary African-American arts and creative enterprise.
